When it comes to bold and edgy aesthetics, LED signs and neon signs are always in a battle. Both are considered options when you are decorating your bedroom, your living room, or your store, but it is often difficult to weigh in all the pros and cons once buying. Both are somewhat similar in their effect, both catch people’s eyes, and both set the vibe. But which one is the perfect option for you? Do you really need the bright fluorescence of neon signs or will LED signs do the job? Will the LED signs be able to do justice to the idea you’re aiming for? Here is a short guide that compares the pros and cons of both neon signs and LED signs.
Appearance
Both an LED sign and a neon sign can provide bright, fluorescent aesthetics to the place you’re decorating. However, since neon signs are a glass tube filled with inert gas, their reactions produce energy which lead to much greater fluorescence. LED signs are comparatively duller than the neon signs as they are just a bunch of diodes that produce overlapping light. This overlapping increases their brightness but not as much fluorescence. If you want something glaring, bold, and something that can be seen from a distance, go for neon signs. If you want something dimmer and retained in the same room, go for LED signs.
Energy Efficiency
When it comes to utilization of energy, LED signs win but conditionally. If the signs required are very large in size, then LED signs easily win by a mile. A large neon sign can use an uptake of almost 1200 volts. An LED sign of a similar size, however, uses much less energy and can run by an uptake of only 15 volts. If both the signs are required in a significantly smaller size, both of them, more or less, require a similar amount of energy. Hence, if you’re going for a sign that will consume less energy, go for an LED sign, but if you’re fine with higher energy consumption, go for neon signs.
Personalization
Since neon signs are usually more common than LED signs, they come with more personalization. Not only do they come made in common phrases and shapes, you can also get a custom neon sign made according to whatever they want it to be. However, they do end up costing a bit more than LED signs though, but on the bright side, they tend to last longer as well. All in all, it’s a well-deserved tie between the both of them.
